7 March 2010 - PLMC

At PLMC we listened to Pastor Seet
While outside there was record heat
He concluded the series on the Lord's Prayer
About temptation and the armor we should wear
The passages came from Matthew six, 9 to 13
As well as Ephesians 6, verses ten to eighteen

Pastor referred back to his desire to be free
Of the temptation to eat fried hokkien mee
He said that of our bodies we must take care
If we are to serve God, all the time, everywhere
Temptations can be reduced over a period of time
By avoiding situations, like the scene of a crime
And per James 1, verses 13-15
The temptor is not God, it is Satan unseen

Temptation leads to desire, then sin, then death
So we should flee it til we are out of breath
Earlier in James 1, verses two to four
Says the testing of faith can help us more
It leads to perseverance and maturity
And that is good for both you and for me
And remember First Corinthians chapter ten verse thirteen
No temptation is more than we can bear, as an adult or a teen
Because He is faithful, God provides a way out
Of that we really should have no doubt

He gave us armor and weapons, per Ephesians six
Upon those elements Pastor had our attention transfix
For each of them, he had things to tell
Helping make the points with pictures as well

What is protected by the belt of truth?
Our reproductive organs, without being uncouth
That is because without truth the church cannot grow
All too often members’ hypocrisy doth show

The breastplate of righteousness protects our heart
From the Word of God we should not part
We must do what is right
All day and through the night

Our feet should be ready with the gospel of peace
If we want God’s family to increase
We should focus on reconciliation not condemnation
If we want to grow the church’s congregation

The helmet of salvation protects our mind
So we don’t believe Satan, who is most unkind
We have been set free because of what Jesus has done
Despite our sins, us He will never shun

The shield of faith protects our body whole
Immersion in God’s Word, Pastor did extol
The other phrase that to us he did give
Is that by faith the righteous do live

The sword of the spirit is quite unique
Of its dual qualities Pastor did speak
It can be used for both defense and attack
It is the one weapon we should never lack
But with all of these weapons still exposed is one part
Our back, unless with Christian brothers we play it smart
Used as a group, shields can be quite effective
When we stick together, like a collective

Before ending, one other point Pastor hastened to say
That is to alone and in groups ensure that we pray
For increased faith and protection
He sure gave us lots for our weekly reflection
