21 October 2012 - ENCS

Pastor Kenneth spoke today about "Father's Love"
1 John 3:1 says that we are children of God above
Everlasting love is highlighted in Jeremiah 31:3
We are sons, not slaves in Galatians 4:6-7 we see
"Moving from Spiritual Slavery to Spiritual Sonship"
Pastor Kenneth focused on in order for us to equip

All earthly love is by God's love far surpassed
Our love versus His perfection does contrast
Experienced this love many of us have not
Even though it is talked about quite a lot
In John 14:18, Jesus provides us with a big clue
"I will not leave you as orphans, I will come to you"
He was of course talking about our spiritual state
Hoping that we do not end up following Satan's fate
Lucifer was the worship leader before he did transgress
But out of wickedness, he chose to be fatherless
To break our relationships, Satan doesn't need a sword
He knows that all he must do is to sow seeds of discord
But when God from Eden pushed Adam and Eve
He always loved them even though He did grieve

Pastor then spoke about orphan hearts
Versus hearts of sonship, in five parts
Image of God, Theology, Need for Approval were three
Followed by Motivation for Purity and View of Authority
Orphan hearts, to please God, harder and harder try
Hearts of sonship know it is God's relationship, that's why
Orphan hearts love the law and try to rules adhere
Hearts of sonship live by the law of love it is clear
Orphan hearts want constant earthly approval and praise
Hearts of sonship know God accepts them all of their days
Orphan hearts need to be holy to get God's nod
Hearts of sonship want to be holy to honor God
Orphan hearts view any authority with suspicion
Hearts of sonship respect those in higher position

God wants us each to make that trip
From orphan heart to heart of sonship
The prodigal son who returned with repentant heart
The elder brother for the wrong reasons did his part
In other words, the orphan heart must change
Into a heart of sonship it must exchange
For misrepresenting God's love, we must our parents forgive
None of us is perfect, but in a broken state we cannot live
On being sons and daughters to our parents, focus we must
In that way, we can learn to honor, respect, obey, and trust
For in 1 Corinthians 15 verse forty six it does say
The natural precedes the spiritual, that is the way
As the son of God and of man Jesus did himself refer
To have the heart of sonship, we should not defer

24 June 2012 - ENCS

Pastor Kenneth talked about "The Power of Unity"
He based his talk on Psalm 133 verses one to three
Unity is the state of being one
If Christians unite, the devil is done
For the devil always tries to break us apart
Unity allows God's blessings for us to start

"Why Unity?" was the first question Pastor did ask
Making "all believers as one" is no simple task
He referred to John 17 verses 20 through 22
"So the world will believe" we did thus see
But if the unity is not for God's good, it is hollow
Then, as Babel saw, disaster will surely follow

About the "Benefits of Unity" Pastor talked some more
He went into some detail on benefits numbering four
The first is the "good and pleasant fragrance" of God
To Second Corinthians 2:14-15 he did give a nod
The second is that "unity leads to fruitfulness"
For united people are more productive, not less
Pastor referred to Old Testament passages two
From Genesis and Isaiah, mentions of heaven's dew
The "power of agreement" was point number three
From Matthew 18 verse 19, this is plain to see
If two agree and ask, it will somehow get done
The power of unity can be overcome by none
The sound of unity, known as "sumphones" in Greek
Helps others, especially those who a Godly path seek
The "strength of unity" was Pastor's point number four
If we step forth, we will be joined by more and more

"Achieving Unity" was the third topic of the day
Three simple instructions Pastor did then say
First, to be of one spirit and accept one another
No matter our background, treat all like a brother
He referred to the one hundred twenty disciples at Pentecost
Their diverse unity led to thousands of souls saved, not lost
Second, we must ask for forgiveness and must also forgive
Ignoring offenses, like water off a duck, is the best way to live
Third, we must commit and take ownership
If we own something, our efforts will not slip

In conclusion, Pastor said that we should all know
That it is of course easier to hold on than to let go
But we must let go of the old to get the new
And we don't have forever to decide what to do
God knows where He wants us, Pastor did say
But first we must learn to trust and obey

7 November 2010 - ENCS

The "Follow the Leader" series did commence
Noah the "ark-itect" was far from dense
"Righteous Perseverance" Pastor Kenneth talked about
His throat was dry; he could not shout
Pastor started by reading from Genesis 6, verses 8 and 9
Noah found favor in God's eye and was never out of line
By way of context, we read verses five and seven
The earth's wickedness grieved our Father in heaven
From Adam, Noah was ten generations down
How did he find God's favor instead of a frown?
Pastor focused on character traits two
That drove Noah to do what he did do

Righteousness was the first such trait
In the Bible, Noah sure did rate
Verse nine says that he "walked with God"
Enoch is the only other to get such a nod
Per Genesis 6:22 and then in Genesis 7:5
Noah followed God's commands when he was alive
By giving God his all
Noah really stood tall
Eight people were all that God did save
When he sent the Great Flood and a big wave
As a side note, we then had a brief Chinese lesson
The character "ship" is comprised of "boat", "eight", "person"

Pastor then talked about the trait of perseverance
"To pursue steadily despite opposition" to your stance
Many famous persevering people he did then name
Lincoln, Edison, Churchill, Ford, Disney were the same
Be never giving up, they eventually did succeed
Words of failure they just refused to heed
From John 16:33 Pastor Kenneth then read
"In the world, you will have trouble" Jesus said
And from James 1:12, "blessed is the man"
"Who perseveres under trial" the best that he can
Thinking back to Noah and his situation
He was no doubt ridiculed by the entire nation
But he persevered according to God's will
Thus his family God's Flood did not kill
Remember that persevering in an unrighteous way
Brings destruction at the end of the day
As a result of persevering with righteousness
Noah received a life filled with fruitfulness

8 August 2010 - ENCS

After worship we gave God a standing ovation
Then Pastor Kenneth spoke on "Praying for our nation"
From 2 Chronicles 7:14 and 1 Timothy 2:1-4
God wants us to pray for our leaders even more
So as Singapore celebrates forty five years
The congregation (some in red and white) were all ears

Pastor first asked 'why should we pray for our nations?'
He referred to three separate situations
First, comparing Sierra Leone to Singapore
With similar backgrounds, why is one so poor?
Sierra Leone has corruption and strife
While in Singapore we lead a good life
Leadership makes a very big difference
We should be thankful and pray in this instance
Second, he mentioned the USSR
Which was communism's biggest star
Gorbachev brought perestroika and glasnost
And soon the Iron Curtain itself was toast
But helping behind the scene
Was lots of prayer unseen
For one person's prayer can be heard
Per Kings, like Elijah's word
Third, he talked of Cali, home of the Columbian drug cartel
Every day to murder, many people fell
Then 25,000 people prayed in May 1995
Forty eight hours later, everyone stayed alive
Prayer rallies continued and churches grew
The cartel weakened and corruption declined too
So prayer can change a nation
Even if doesn't receive commendation
And since the destiny of a nation has a direct impact
On the destiny of its people (that's a fact)
We should all pray for Singapore
Or all of us the enemy will devour

Pastor then asked 'how should we pray for our nation?"
Even if this is only an interim destination
We must pray with passion and perseverance
For daily prayer can indeed make a difference
We must pray with the right posture
With humility and repentance that's for sure
If we acknowledge the sins of the country
God's forgiveness and healing we will see
And we must pray in His presence
To hear His voice there must be silence
For it is not true that God rarely doth speak
But we rarely listen even when Him we seek

In terms of 'what do we pray for our nation?'
Pastor gave a long list to the congregation
He also referred to Jeremiah 29:11
'Hope and a prosperous future' from God in heaven
Remember that the enemy is trying to lower our standard
We must live right for God, even if it is hard

So as Pastor finished with a prayer
It was clear that for the nation we should care
But the points also apply, it seems to me
To praying for ourselves and our family
The series 'Praying Effectively" ended with this sermon
But our prayer lives should never be done

13 June 2010 - ENCS

After the offertory message said "just give it"
Pastor Kenneth continued the series "Just Live It"
He talked about temptation, which we have all seen
His first passage was 1 Corinthians 10 verse 13
God will not let us be tempted more than we can bear
He will provide a way out because He doth care
And no matter how many times to temptation we fall prey
We can still overcome it each and every new day

Pastor observed that to temptation we are desensitized
And are drawn to it, instead of fleeing, he surmised
Our weak points the devil knows
Things that we like he often shows
This strategy can be hard to fight
But we can win, with God's might

Pastor shared three characteristics of temptation
The first is temporary relief, aka instant gratification
The second is that temptations are lies from the enemy
This of course started in Genesis 3, verses 1 to 3
The third is that it strikes unexpectedly, when we are tired or inert
Per Peter 5: 8-9, we should be self-controlled and alert

Peter then told us four ways for temptation to be overcome
All have key words starting with W, that's not dumb

The first is to WAIT upon the Lord and learn to say no
To Psalms 33:20 and Lamentations 3:22-26 we should go
Waiting can be hard but worthwhile it will be
Just like discipline as in Hebrews 12:11 we can see
Philippians 4:11-13 tells us to be contented
That makes it hard for us to be tempted

The second is to WATCH out for one another
We need accountability from our Christian brother
Even wise Solomon fell, per 1 Kings eleven
We will all follow, if not for the grace of heaven
So confess to each other per James 5:16
In 1 John 1 :9, this command is also seen

The third is to exercise your WILL to build strong convictions now
Be like Daniel and live through testing fires, wow!
Philippians 4:8 tells us what to think about
To prepare for any crisis, there is no other route

The fourth is that the WORD of God will help us learn the truth
So read the Bible until you are long in the tooth
2 Timothy 3:16-17 and Hebrews 4:12
And Matthew 4:11 are verses you should delve
The latter told of Jesus' temptation
He used God's strength and of course meditation
John 8:31-32 and Psalms 43:3
Are other verses you should see

So in conclusion temptation can be overcome
Remember that to fear we should not succumb

7 February 2010 - ENCS

The offertory message came from 2 Corinthians 8:10-11
We must have integrity, in the eyes of earth and of heaven
Whether our ability and means are big or small
In serving and giving, we must do our all

Then Pastor Kenneth started the "Most Wanted" series
About Enoch there are always lots of queries
We played along with Pastor's corny knock-knock
"I don't know where he's gone": the punchline about Enoch
From Genesis 5, verses twenty one to twenty four
After 365 years of walking with God, Enoch was no more

"Living Right Even If No One Else Is" was the sermon title
In an evil and wicked world, Enoch's way was vital
It was a mere three generations later
Mankind was virtually destroyed by the Creator

Enoch's key was intimacy with God
Into a few passages we did prod
He depended on humility and faith
We also need both, Pastor sayeth

Humility is to have the spirit of a servant
Upon God we must be totally dependant
Read Psalms 138:6 and Micah 6 verse eight
When treated as a servant, we should not become irate

In terms of faith, read verses 5 and 6 of Hebrews 11
Without faith, we can not please God who art in heaven
With God side by side we must walk
So that together we may talk
If consistently we do walk with God
His will replaces our current facade

To a walk of righteousness this will lead
He will bless us if His will we do heed
Others in need we can in turn bless
That should be a measure of our success
To God our actions should give glory
That should be the aim of our life story

27 December 2009 - ENCS

Pastor Kenneth finished the series on Christ's various names
"Prince of Peace" is the final one Isaiah 9:6 claims
Pastor pointed out that 2009 was very bad
Lots of unrest and turmoil making the world sad
So how can we have peace
If the turbulence doesn't cease?

There are three things that being Prince of Peace doth mean
There is rulership, per Romans 14 verse seventeen
Then there is the peace message
Which about Jesus the OT did presage
Lastly, He is the peacegiver from heaven
As per John 14 verse twenty seven

About this topic, Colossians 3:15 imparts
“Let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts”
No matter how peaceful our faces may look
God can read our hearts like a book
With the peace that passeth all understanding
We should enter 2010, no matter how demanding

About godly peace, Pastor mentioned aspects five
Three about God and two for which we should strive

The first is that God provides and protects
For us and all of his earthly subjects
Remember Matthew 6, the twenty sixth verse
God cares for the birds; we are not worse
And Psalm 91: 14 says He will “satisfy us”
In that we can surely trust

Second, He executes righteous judgment and vindication
Romans 12: 19 provides an explanation
Psalm 37:7 tells us to be patient and still
God is in control; His plan He will fulfill
For more, read Psalm 7:8-11
And the twentieth verse of Jeremiah eleven

About the aspect third
From Pastor we then heard
God accepts us, so we should be content
About our looks, we should not resent
His love for us is really unconditional
Don’t try to be beautiful in a way traditional

The fourth aspect is to in God really trust
Commit our plans and ways to him we must
He will do things for our good
As Isaiah 26:3 says he would
Psalm 37:5 and Proverbs 16:3
Tell it like it ought to be

The last aspect is to exalt the Lord
Psalms 34: 1-3 should not be ignored
Psalms 28: 7 and 118: 29
Are also two favorites of mine
As our thanks to Him doth increase
We are overcome by a sense of peace

We then heard about the Miracle on Christmas Eve
In 1914, when World War I took its leave
The same can happen in the world today
If we allow God to have His way
Now is the moment to accept the invitation
And overcome our fear and frustration
