The seventeenth verse of Colossians 3
Was the topic of the offertory
Do everything in His name
Words and deeds, all the same
It's not about us, the pastor said
Think about what God gave us instead
The sermon was entitled "Power to Relate"
We must fellowship with others, do not wait
Reading from 1 John 1, verses five to seven
Talks of the light that comes from God in heaven
Disunity among believers Satan tries to cause
He gets us to focus on others' flaws
If we look at chapter seven of Revelations
It mentions fellowship among all tribes and nations
Remember that Jesus was a friend of sinners
Both Jews and Gentiles, both losers and winners
Barriers to relations come in many a different type
With different races we should use a peace pipe
There are also age, revenge, and fear
That keep us from drawing near
By building these walls of hate
The enemy tries to seal our fate
Often it is a lack of understanding
That prevents our fellowship from expanding
Three good examples from Acts were discussed
They all demonstrate the pastor's main thrust
In Acts 8, Philip was told
To run by the chariot and be bold
Until the Ethiopian man
Was baptized per God's plan
In Acts 9, Ananias had to obey the Lord
And place hands on Saul, who had wielded a sword
The scales soon fell from Saul's eyes
And the world was in for a big surprise
In Acts 10, Peter had a food-related vision
So he met with Cornelius, risking derision
About Jesus Gentiles did hear and believe
And so the Holy Spirit they did receive
We need to develop cultural quotient (or CQ)
And love those who differ from me and you
Remember the key word from those chapters in Acts
God's order is to "GO", despite any attacks
Are we willing to relate with God's heart
That is what can really set us apart
