The offering text was Matthew two verse nine
To baby Jesus that famous star did shine
We can get directions in the same way
From God, about how we should live each day
And if in faith we do give
God will bless all who live
The sermon was the second in a series
About hymns there are lots of queries
"Christmas Hims" focuses on His many names
That various verses and hymns doth proclaim
These names describe His nature and power
And how He can change our lives every hour
Today started with Isaiah nine verse six
"Mighty God" was thrown into the mix
The first thought is of physical strength
Pastor Joshua talked of Superman at length
But then we heard from Hebrews 1 :3
"The Son is the radiance of God's glory"
An "exact representation" of God in all ways
"Sustaining all things" is another key phrase
Remember what is said in John 1, verses 1-3
God made all things, including you and me
Yet Jesus arrived as a baby so humble
Instead of with lights and a "royal rumble"
He was obedient to God until His death
Not asking 'to be or not to be" like Macbeth
God has the power to stop us from sinning
But He hasn't done this from the beginning
We must make choices in order to be free
Even if with our actions He does not agree
We must be free to understand real love
And have a relationship with God above
Yet it is also a documented fact
That sometimes God does decide to act
In Isaiah one, the very first verse
God gave power, not a curse
"Jesus uses His power to freedom produce"
Our chains of sin can become loose
Look at verse 38 of Acts thirteen
Jesus forgives all that we have been
Under Mosaic law we could never be free
Because Adam and Eve ate fruit from the tree
The law is like the outside of a cup
Hiding 'dead bones' on which we sup
But if our insides are truly clean
Our faith by all will be clearly seen
It is a measure of true humility
If we accept our own fallibility
Remember the great power of God's love
Which far exceeds our sinful nature we should be rid of
So don't in our own problems wallow
That holds us back and makes us hollow
From John six, verse twenty nine
"To believe" is the critical line
To have faith, one must truly believe
Then His righteousness we can receive
Read second Corinthians five, verse twenty one
And Zechariah 4 : 6 about what the Spirit has done
The Holy Spirit holds the key
If from sin we are to flee
It is only with God's might
That we can do what is right
