18 October 2009 - ENCS

I went to my daughter’s church today
To hear how they sing, preach, and pray
“What is your life message?” was the topic
It became quite relevant given that she is sick

Pastor started by stating what a good story must contain
The first is to have an ambition-filled character main
Second, there must be conflict and risk
The hero must be selfless; otherwise tsk tsk
Finally, resolve the story must
Otherwise it will be a bust

But not all Bible stories end happily
God’s ultimate plan Leah did not see
And then, if we are frankly speaking
Uriah was played out by David the King
First David took his wife
Then put an end to his life
So where was God when these things happened
Being joyful and thankful we cannot pretend

About “nonsense worship” three questions Pastor did answer
Times like this we will see, that’s for sure
Why should we worship when things don’t make sense?
Half of Psalms are actually laments
Remember that “it is not about me”
Because sovereign our God will always be

And then what do we need to understand?
Think of Job who lost all – including his land
We came into this world with nothing
Everything we have is therefore a blessing

And finally how do we worship in times that are bad?
Jesus in Gethsemane did not get mad
“Not my will but Yours be done” as Jesus said
Even when we feel forsaken instead
But with God that is never the case
He is with us no matter what we face

So even if we are not having fun
We should use worship as our weapon
