20 December 2009 - ENCS

Before the offering Elaine spoke of the real reason
For this, the annual Christmas season
Using verse eleven of Matthew two
The Magi gave Jesus gifts before saying adieu
In the same way we should remember God's gift
As through our presents we do sift
His treasure should be in our heart
And from Him our eyes should not part

["Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, today is the present
Treat it as a gift that God above to us has sent"]

"Everlasting Father" was the topic today
Pastor Larry had a lot to say
The twenty third verse of Matthew one
Links back to what Isaiah said would be done
Refer back to Isaiah 9:6 and 7:14
Remember there were 700 years in between

He referred to Psalms 90 verse two
God is timeless and everlasting too
We tend to focus on our time on earth
And oft forget about the virgin birth
As per Daniel 7, verse fourteen
God's kingdom will always be seen
And read 1 John 3 verse eight
Jesus came to seal Satan's fate
Revelation 22 : 13 and Hebrews 13 :8
God's eternity is surely great

About our "Father", he spoke of aspects three
To love, protect, and provide a purpose for me

The eighth verse of Romans 5
To die for us, Jesus did arrive
His love is there though we don't deserve it
All we have to do is to Him submit
And per Romans 8, verse thirty nine
Nothing can then separate us from His love divine
And because of His love, there is always hope
With our troubles, we can thus cope
But remember that with love comes discipline too
God allows us to falter to show what he can do
Romans 5 verses three to five
(A phrase which helps me survive)
Suffering, perseverance, character, then hope
Which doesn't disappoint, thanks to the Spirit's scope

In terms of protection, see Hebrews 13 : 6
"What can man do to me?", with God in the mix
And from Psalms 91 verse four
We don't need to be afraid any more
God is always there to protect
His children He will never reject

There are many stories in the OT
Where God talks of what he wants people to be
Each and every one of us has a purpose in life
Whether we are a child, a husband, or a wife
Read Genesis 25 : 32
Like Esau we should not do
He despised his birthright
That sealed his eternal plight
Instead remember verse six of Malachi 4
Our hearts should be in tune for ever more
If we don't, He will "strike the land with a curse"
Thus leading to a death that can not reverse

In summary, an "Everlasting Father" is our God
And that is for real, not a facade
