On this budget Sunday
We heard from Rev Tay
Mark 10 verses seventeen to thirty one
Talked of the young rich man, come and gone
He was well mannered and polite
But don’t be fooled by the sight
For as we look back
Four things he did lack
“Shallow view” was the key phrase
As into the passage we did gaze
His view of God was the first
And this may not have been the worst
Second was his view of the laws
He did not understand the real cause
‘Not doing wrong’ is not enough
We must ‘do good’ even when it is tough
His view of sin was the third
We must repent first, so we heard
Self-sufficient none of us can be
Especially if we focus too much on money
The fourth was his view of salvation
As he thought it was attained through action
But sin can not be offset by good works
God can save us all, even the jerks
The call for the young man was clear
It was to give up that which was so dear
By giving all his things to the poor
He would build heavenly treasures for evermore
A brand new start he could have made
If to his wealth farewell he bade
But at this chance he did scoff
So he actually left much worse off
Then our dear Pastor Key Leong
Talked about money, but not for too long
As a servant, money can be a good thing
But as a master, it is devastating
Remember there are things money can not buy
Such as God’s love and salvation for you and I
But if we can unshackle our hearts
We are promised an abundant life of three parts
First we will be blessed throughout his life
Second we might face a fair bit of strife
But persecution helps our faith to become strong
And ensures that our hearts are where they belong
The third is that eternal life begins
When we truly repent of our sins
He does not call those who are qualified
But qualifies those who are on His side
God’s rewards go far beyond our wildest dreams
And so choice is quite clear it seems
Make the commitment now, today
There really is no other way
