2 May 2010 - ENCS

The Top 5 series continued with Pastor Joshua getting a subject tougher
If God is good, why must so many people feel pain and suffer?
Looking at the philosophical or theological side
Romans 5:12 is a worthwhile guide
All of us have been known to sin
So into the world death has come in
And in a very similar vein
CS Lewis wrote "The Problem of Pain"
God made things good but gave us free will
To veer away or His wishes doth fulfill

When bad things happen, we ask lots of questions
People come up with various suggestions
But as Jesus said in Luke 13 verses 1 to 5
The Galileans who died were no worse than others still alive
We all need to repent
To avoid eternal torment

God may be using our suffering for other aims
It is not a case of Him just playing games
Remember Romans 8 verse twenty eight
For those who love God, good things await
And Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 1:4-10
Remind us of his grace under pressure, amen
How we act when times are tough
Shows others that we are made of godly stuff
And per Romans 8:32, God gave His only Son
So He will give us all things, until our loves are done
He will restore us after the pain
Pastor said 'rejoice in suffering' again

Isaiah 53:3 talks of Jesus' suffering and despair
God knows what it is like when he hears a prayer
The same message is repeated in Hebrews 2:18
He can help those being tempted by things unseen
By turning to God when we suffer
He can help us even if things get rougher
We should learn to rejoice at all times good or bad
Our mood should always be positive, thankful, and glad
