11 October 2009 - PLMC

Pastor Reuben started speaking whilst it was still morning
He began without much of a warning
But then he had trouble finding Mark
It was just a mistake, not a lark
Talking about the last few verses of Mark chapter 8
He cut his sermon in half so we would not be too late

Jesus did rebuke Peter towards the passage’s ending
For tempting Jesus, even if that is not what Peter was intending
Peter was focused on extending Jesus’ life here on earth
But His death and resurrection so much more were worth

God is our healer, Reuben did say
Even if we are sick this day
This is because Jesus is The One
His anointing cannot be outdone
This means that we are also anointed
And thus can never be disappointed
And unlike those in the OT
The Holy Spirit remains with you and me

Jesus asked who people said He was
But even Elijah and prophets had flaws
He was the Christ, Peter said
And that put the matter to bed

Jesus instructed his disciples not to tell
(Rebuked was the word used here as well)
If people heard that He was the Messiah and King
Overthrowing the Romans they would be seeking
The people were not ready for the truth
As their faith was still in its youth

In Luke 1, John the Baptist’s father prophesied
Jesus would fight enemies and temptation outside
Even today, evil spirits and people
Attack us, children of the steeple

But righteousness we get from Him
For all time, filled to the brim
Things happened to Jesus he did not deserve
So that our punishment we would not have to serve
The fact that He was beaten and whipped
Occurred because it was in God’s script

Getting back to the question at hand
We really must take a stand
Who do we say Jesus is?
Knowing Him must be our biz
As knowledge itself is not enough
We must do what is really tough

Re-presenting Jesus to others
So that all can be Christian brothers
He must show in our character and attitude
Good works result in His gratitude

So go and seek more of God
Make our faith more than a mere facade
