31 December 2010 - Mark 7:18-23

Jesus asked his disciples if they were dense
But none of them took any offense
For He was explaining what he said to the crowd
About what types of food the Lord allowed
"Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person"
"From the outside can defile them" or worsen?
"For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach"
"And then out of the body”, never to come back
"In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean"
But it was not just about food that he did mean
For "what comes out of a person is what defiles them"
It is from a person's heart that evil thoughts do stem
Greed, malice, envy, arrogance, and other thoughts vile
"All these evils come from inside and...a person" defile

Jesus' message implores us to once again start
For defilement comes from an impure heart
So dear God as we approach a new year
Please help me your words to clearly hear
And as we enter into two thousand eleven
Please help my eyes to remain on heaven
For I know that I cannot do this alone
As such, I bow before your throne
