28 November 2010 - ENCS

Pastor Larry spoke about the shepherd-king David today
Despite having a discouraging week, he did say
For if there is something God wants us to do
He will provide encouragement and help us through

In regards David, about his many traits we heard
He was a psalmist, warrior, king, leader, and shepherd
But his greatest strength, what really set him apart
Per Samuel 13:14, was David's own heart
This is why God did appoint him to Israel lead
When Saul did not God's commands heed
David led wholeheartedly in a halfhearted world
Even before the slingshot stone at Goliath he hurled
This was referenced in Acts 13 verse 22
God said that David would do anything he wanted him to
In the same way, God wants to challenge us
Are our hearts fully committed to him without a fuss?

Going back to David, Pastor had five points to say
He only got through one as time slipped away
But nobody has any reason to complain
For it was the key message we are to retain
David received God's word despite facing rejection
Even when Samuel arrived to appoint God's selection
His father Jesse lined up sons numbered one through seven
But the omitted David was the one chosen by God in heaven
For God looks at our heart, not how we appear
The key is to be filled with awe and fear

We will all face some rejection from time to time
There is healing and acceptance in God's word, prose and rhyme
This is what was facing David when Psalm 22 he penned
When feeling forsaken, on God's strength we should depend
Psalm 119:2 contains a truth from which we can not depart
"Blessed are they...who seek him with all their heart"

Later in his life, after David had really strayed
Per Psalm 51, he repented, worshipped, and prayed
That is a lesson for us as well
To ensure our sins do not lead us to hell

The bottom line is the sermon today
Is that walking with God is the only way
For even when we are under the enemy's attack
From full devotion, we should not hold back
