21 November 2010 - ENCS

In the "Follow the Leader" series, this was the third part
Reading Joshua 1 :6-9, Pastor Charles then did start
The focus of Pastor's sermon today
Was Joshua's "strong and courageous" way
Three times God repeated this key phrase
It resonated with Joshua all through his days
For he led his people, faced giants, and took the land
That God promised his ancestors, we do understand
Likewise we may be challenged with fear an doubt
But in our faith we must stand very stout
For as per verse eight, we can then have success
Our lives, like Joshua's, God will surely bless

There are three things we must do with God's word, Pastor said
We must confess with our mouths if we are so led
Our faith must be clear for others to hear and to see
Then per Romans 10:9, saved we will then be

We must meditate with our mind and heart
As Psalm 1, verse 2 does impart
To muse, consider, and ponder mean "to think"
The opposite is true of 'amuse', Pastor said without a wink

We must also apply the word in our life and actions
Following the example of Jesus in all our interactions
For our faith must become a matter of the heart
From Jesus' words we should not depart

Pastor then realised that he did not have very long
Ho moved on to the imperative of "be strong"
With the enemy, we must be very firm
And squash him like a little worm
Per Ephesians 6:13-15, we must "stand firm then"
Our feet should be fitted with the gospel of peace, amen!

From text such as Exodus 17, verse eight to thirteen
Joshua was a faithful servant of Moses, it was seen
By working together, many battles they won
Joshua was 'number two man' until they were done
Joshua and Caleb were the only faithful spies
From Numbers 13, I read with my own eyes
And when Moses went up to get the Law
Caleb followed; both up and down he saw

Pastor concluded with a story of Marshall Ney
Who despite shaking knees, went on his way
Napoleon said he was the bravest soldier far or near
For like Joshua, he pursued the enemy despite his fear
