27 July 2010 - Philippians 2:1-11

If we are encouraged by being with Christ united
Or if we feel the comfort and compassion Paul cited
Then we are to be of a like mind
"Being one in spirit and purpose" Paul does remind
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit"
"But in humility
" others you should always greet
Paul goes on to say, referring to Jesus' name
"Your attitude should be the same"
For Jesus "did not consider equality with God something to be" understood
So He made himself nothing and took the nature of a servant when he could
He humbled himself as a man and on the cross
Even though He should have been treated as the boss
"Therefore God exalted him" with honor, without shame
"And gave him the name that is above every name"
So "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow"
"In heaven" and "on earth" - everybody and thing, now
"And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord"
"To the glory of God the Father
", so ended Paul's written word

This verse was referred to in my BSF this past week
Reminding us that humble servanthood is what we should seek
Compared to anyone else, none of us is any better
That is one point we should get from Paul's letter
For Christ humbled himself many times and in many places
We should remember this and be thankful as we go through our paces
